Dear Readers,
We are pleased to launch our monthly newsletter, keeping our community, supporters and friends up to date with the work of the Charity. Each month, we will share the latest news, projects, events, achievements and opportunities to get involved, while highlighting the difference your continued support helps us make.
We hope this newsletter will provide a regular window into the work we do and help us stay connected with the people and communities at the heart of everything we stand for.
New Chair of the Charity
We are pleased to inform you that, on 5 August 2026, the Trustees of the Charity unanimously elected Maureen Price as Chair of The Eldonian Community Trust. Maureen has been a long-standing champion for our community and its residents. Her appointment marks the next stage in the Charity’s journey, following the important work of stabilisation and renewal under Lord Rennard’s leadership. The Charity now looks forward to building on that work, continuing to strengthen the Charity and remaining focused on serving the Eldonian community.
Lord Rennard said: “After helping to stabilise the Trust over the past year, I believe this is the right time for leadership to return to someone from the Eldonian community. Maureen has proved to be a great champion for residents over many years. I look forward to continuing to support her and to working with all the Trustees as we continue our fight for justice for a community that has been unfairly deprived of major assets.”
Maureen Price said: “I am honoured to have been elected Chair of the Trust. I would like to thank Lord Rennard for his outstanding leadership and commitment over the past year. I look forward to working with my fellow Trustees as we continue to strengthen the Trust and serve the Eldonian community.”
Meeting with Our Elected Representatives
The Charity was also pleased to meet with Kim Johnson MP, Member of Parliament for Liverpool Riverside, and Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, to discuss the future of our community and the issues that matter most to residents.
The meeting provided an opportunity to outline the Charity's ongoing work across the Village and wider Vauxhall area, as well as discussing the challenges and opportunities facing our community. We emphasised the importance of continued investment, support for local residents and strengthening our community for future generations. We also discussed the Charity's ambitions to develop new opportunities that will benefit residents.
We would like to thank Kim Johnson MP and Mayor Rotheram for taking the time to meet with us and listen to the concerns and ambitions of our community. We look forward to continuing to work constructively for the benefit of residents.
Planning Update – Former Our Lady of Reconciliation School Site
We are pleased to inform residents that Liverpool City Council has refused planning permission for the proposed 290-apartment development on the former Our Lady of Reconciliation Primary School site, submitted by Edward Brack of Brack Construction Limited.
The Charity worked throughout this process to ensure that residents' concerns were heard. Following our community meeting in April, attended by more than 100 residents, we made formal representations to the Council raising concerns including the scale of the development, the lack of affordable housing and wider concerns regarding the ownership of the site. We believe this decision provides an opportunity to look again at what this important site should deliver for the Vauxhall community.
NHS Live Well Bus – Monday 19 October
We are also pleased to announce that the Charity will be hosting the NHS Live Well Bus on Monday 19 October. The Live Well Bus is a mobile NHS health and wellbeing service which brings information, advice and support directly into local communities. Residents will be able to speak with NHS staff and access advice on healthy living, preventing illness, wellbeing and local health services.
We encourage residents to make use of this valuable service. Further details about the location and times will be shared shortly.
Introducing the Eldonian Community Café
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Eldonian Community Café, taking place at Our Lady of Reconciliation de la Salette Church. The Café will provide a friendly and welcoming space for residents to come together, meet neighbours, enjoy good company and have a chat over tea, coffee and cake.
The Community Café will take place on Thursdays from 10:45am, with our first three sessions on: Thursday 17 September, Thursday 24 September, Thursday 1 October. Further dates will be confirmed and announced in due course.
Everyone is welcome. Come along, bring a friend, meet your neighbours and enjoy a cuppa in a relaxed and friendly environment. All Completely Free. We look forward to welcoming you!
Looking Ahead
As we launch this new monthly newsletter, we look forward to keeping residents, supporters and friends informed about the work of the Charity and the progress we are making together.
There is much to look forward to in the months ahead, and we remain committed to listening to our community, supporting local residents and creating new opportunities for the Eldonian community.
